Award-winning TV garden designer Chris Beardshaw is to provide a new design for London’s longest herbaceous border.

The popular presenter of Beechgrove Garden, and a regular panellist on radio’s Gardeners’ Question Time, is to tackle the project, fresh from winning the ‘People’s Choice Award for Show Garden’ at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The border, situated in front of the Queen’s House in Greenwich Park, had become infested with difficult-to-treat bindweed.
All the plants were stripped out last winter, and the bindweed was treated as it emerged this spring. Currently, annual wildflowers are growing there until September.
The new design is currently being finalised.
Chris said: “I feel very honoured to have the opportunity to re-design this border for Greenwich Park.
“The location is hugely inspirational and, as well as it having great horticultural significance, there is a massive social significance for this particular Royal Park.
“I am looking forward to designing a border that befits such a prestigious and much-loved park.”
The herbaceous border is just one of the features that attract millions of visitors to Greenwich Park every year.
It is the oldest enclosed Royal Park, and is a World Heritage Site. It’s also a Grade 1 listed landscape, and is a haven for wildlife.
